1853 Early New York City Historical Niblo's Saloon Masonry piece in Gold Gilt Frame
Niblo's saloon was a famous NYC saloon and garden, for early plays and theater. Mark twain reviewed "The Black Crook" here, and Danile Webster spoke. It began in 1829 and was demolished in 1895. It was a center for spiritualists, plays, theater, music, speech and politics. This is a beautiful original pressed paper advertising piece for a Free Mason event at Niblo's on Dec. 29, 1953. It tells us of the Annual Soiree of Eastern Star Lodge No. 227, with the committee names (such names as J. Franklin Wells, Joseph A. Hyatt, etc). It is thickly embossed cream colored early paper with heavy gold inks. The scene is a romantic Victorian one of a couple in a garden, church spire and sheep nearby, in the trees. The frame is an early gold gilt 19th c. frame with cracks, wear and chipping, all adding to the charm. Back is early one piece wood of the period, all early in nature. We believe it has been in this frame for years and years. A wonderful and rare NYC related piece! email us!
